Maternity Photo Shoot
I really wanted to do maternity pictures with baby #2. We did not do them with Lyla and I wished we would have. Morgan, Brett's cousin, was staying with us for a few days when I was 34 weeks along and she has an interest in photography. So I asked her if she'd be willing to do a photo shoot of us in our backyard. Even though it took all day to get the ones we wanted and bribing Lyla with brownies to cooperate, I am very pleased with how they turned out.
Baby Showers
I'm so blessed with so many wonderful family and friends to share this happy time with. I had two baby showers at school for baby girl #2. My class along with their parents, threw me a surprise baby shower the last week of school. It was so special and incredibly thoughtful of them. My staff through me and another girl who is also pregnant a shower after school one day the last week of school as well. Diapers, gift cards, and clothes were the most popular gifts we received. We are so grateful for their kindness.
On Saturday, June 2nd my family and friends threw me a small shower at my house. It was such a lovely shower. Having my close friends and family here to celebrate with meant the world to me!!

Months 5-8
The 2nd trimester was by far the smoothest and best I felt throughout the pregnancy. I got my energy back and had no icky pregnancy symptoms. We went on a trip to Southern CA when I was 20 weeks along. We had a great time at Brett's triathlon and going to the SD Zoo and Disneyland. At 23 weeks, we had a 3D ultrasound done of our baby girl. It was such a neat experience for us. Lyla and my parents were there too. I finished my school year when I was about 28 weeks along. It has been so nice having time off before the baby comes in August. Lyla and I have been spending a lot of quality time together. Around 31 weeks, I started to experience heartburn and acid reflux. It is not fun. It is usually the worst after dinner and it doesn't matter what I eat. I've been taking Zantac regularly and that has helped the situation. I am now 34 1/2 weeks and am starting to feel anxious and nervous. She is going to be here before we know it. We have the girls' room all organized and ready to go. All of her stuff is ready, I'm just not sure I'm ready mentally. My biggest fear is taking care of a newborn and toddler at the same time. Lyla requires so much of my attention right now, it's hard to imagine nursing and taking care of a newborn too. Lyla is now potty trained and in a twin bed. Two things we wanted to do before baby #2 arrives. We still do not have a name for her. We've been struggling with agreeing on one. That makes me nervous too. Sleeping has been a challenge lately. I am up frequently during the night to pee and then I can't get comfortable once I get back into bed. My feet have been hot too with it being summer and all. I am definitely ready for an ice cold margarita!!

It's a Girl!!!
We found out on Tues., March 20 that Lyla is going to have a baby sister! I am thrilled that we are having a second girl and that Lyla is going to grow up with a sister. Brett is still trying to wrap his head around the fact that he will not be raising a boy and that he will be the only male in the house. The most important thing is that she is healthy and everything looks good so far.
Not long after we found out it is a girl, Brett was able to feel her move from the outside. Feeling her move around is the coolest feeling. I can't wait for Lyla to be able to feel her move too!

Months 3-5

It's exciting to be in my 2nd trimester! There's a sense of relief that the baby will most likely be ok at this point and I have started to get some of my energy back. I told my work that I am pregnant and most of our friends and family know now. We had our NT ultrasound and the baby is very healthy and right on track. We find out on March 20th if we are having a boy or a girl. Brett is really hoping for a boy this time around. Lyla thinks she is going to have a sister. I am very neautral about the gender. I just want a healthy and happy baby. Once we find out the sex, the planning and preparation will be in full effect. I felt the baby move for the first time a couple days ago. Little flutters right now. I can't wait until Brett and Lyla can feel the movement from the outside. I have gained a few pounds but don't have much of a preggo belly yet. I am still wearing my normal clothes, but they are definitely getting tighter. LOL!!! I'm still running a few days a week, but I've cut back on the distance and the speed. The doctor is encouraging me to keep up with my running as long as I can hold a conversation. I definitely miss racing though:( I miss my wine and Diet Pepsi too!!
1st Trimester
I have been so bad about blogging, taking pictures, and scrapbooking like I had done with Lyla's pregnancy. We are so excited about the second, but it is very different this time around. I am so much busier. Not only is my job crazy this year, but coming home to a toddler leaves me with little time to focus on anything else. The first trimester flew by. With the holidays, moving, work evaluations, and planning Lyla's 2nd birthday party, it went by with a blink of an eye. This pregnancy is very similar to my last. No morning sickness (thank goodness)!! Just fatigue.
We had our first doctor's appt. when I was 7-8 weeks along. Hearing the heartbeat and hearing from the doctor that everything is going well so far was such a relief. It definitely felt more real after we had the first appointment.
We've started talking to Lyla about her new baby brother or sister. She thinks she has a baby in her tummy too. It is so cute. She's not quite getting it yet. We want to prepare her as well as we can. We know it is going to be a HUGE adjustment for her. Sharing mommy and daddy is definitely going to be a struggle for her.
We're Pregnant!!
Brett and I found out we are pregnant with baby #2 on Wed. Dec. 7th. Two days before we closed on our new house. What shocking, exciting, and overwhelming news it was. We knew we wanted another child and we wanted them to be 2-3 years apart. So we decided to start trying in November since we didn't know how long it was going to take. To our surprise we got preggers around Thanksgiving time. Even though we were trying to get pregnant it was still shocking news to find out it had really happened, and so quickly. We feel so blessed to have another miracle entering our lives. I am due August 15th. Lyla and the new baby will be exactly 2.5 years apart.
